Nail biting final match of the Cricket World Cup 2011 played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on the April 02,2011 between the two teams of the sub-continent India and Sri-Lanka had created ever lasting unforgettable memories in the mind of Indian team fans. In the crucial match Sri-Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara after winning the toss elected to bat first and set the target of 275 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs for the hosts. India, batting second to the reply of 274 runs lose the top three crucial wickets at just 113 runs. In a decision which shocked everyone, captain MS decided to bat top of the order in place of the Man in form Yuvraj Singh. It really shocked the cricket experts as Dhoni’s was struggling with the bat throughout the tournament. Dhoni proving his decision right to bat top of the order played a knock of 91 runs in just a 79 balls and hit the winning shot to capture the World cup 2011 trophy. Dhoni was awarded the Man of the Match award for such a fabulous innings.
From a local lad belonging to Jharkhand, to the most successful captain of Indian cricket team, Dhoni’s journey is nothing less than a fairy tale. He truly deserve the name “Captain Cool” as he has shown how to perform in pressure situation without panicking. Under his dynamic captaincy, India became the ICC World Twenty20 champions and now in 2011, they became the World Champions by beating Sri Lanka in the finals of ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. MSD has proved that he is the best captain in Test and ODI so far by winning the Border Gavaskar trophy, Defeating Australia by 2-0 and many other victories which eluded India in past. It was under his captaincy only Indian Cricket team occupied the number one position in ICC ranking.
Dhoni has received many awards in such a short cricketing career. He was awarded as ICC ODI Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009. MSD was also chosen as of Wisden’s first-ever Dream Test XI Team captain, ICC World Test captain and ICC ODI teams captain in 2009.
Within a month of India’s World cup 2011 win Dhoni has made to the list of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people of the world for the year 2010. Magazine rated him above the US President Barack Obama.
Such a great achievement in such a short cricketing career really makes him the Real Cricket Super Hero.
